Western swing guitarist, singer, band leader. Younger brother of Milton Brown, older brother of Roy Lee Brown. Born 29 September 1915, Stephenville, Texas, USA, died 24 December 1978, Fort Worth, Texas, USA.


Playing professionally in his older brother's band in Forth Worth, Texas, by the age of 12, and would join him in The Aladdin Laddies, The Light Crust Doughboys, and then Milton Brown And His Brownies, which Derwood led for two years as Brown's Musical Brownies after Milton's 1936 death. Next, he led a band in Houston or Tyler, joined Bill Boyd in Dallas, then returned to Fort Worth and re-established a band called the Musical Brownies. His final band was founded with brother Roy Lee Brown in 1946, who played on KDNT Denton and for weekly dance nights at a club.
