Doris De La Torre

She studied guitar with Professor Macías. In 1942 she moved to Havana, where in 1953 she began working in CMQ (radio and television) and in cabaret, where she acted as a singer, accompanied by the guitar. She played a small role in a famous soap opera and had a brilliant solo career in the 50’s in Havana. Between 1954 and 1958 she worked with Los Armónicas de Felipe Dulzaides with whom she recorded around three albums as a singer, vocalist and sometimes as a vibraphonist. In this group the Brazilian bossanova and the melodic jazz of the most modern form of the time were cultivated, and Doris could give free reins to the changes of tone playing with harmony what stood out in the Filin movement, hence they called her the Queen of that interpretive style. In 1960 he popularized The Resignation, by Eduardo Davidson; she subsequently settled in the United States, and there she disseminated the songs of filin in the company of José Manuel Solís (Meme). In 1965 he appeared on the album recorded of the First Festival of the Song of Varadero, (before becoming the International Festival of Popular Song, in 1967). One last CD came out under the Hot Production label on December 11, 2001 called Doris of the Legendary Cuban Diva Tower.
