About

Drake is the stage name of Aubrey Drake Graham, a rapper, singer, and entrepreneur born in 1986 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The dominant force in mainstream hip-hop and R&B for the better part of two decades, he pioneered the sung-rap hybrid style that defined the sound of 2010s and early 2020s hip-hop, accumulated a record-breaking streaming catalogue, and built an entertainment and spirits empire from his Toronto base. Having established a profile as an actor on Canadian teen drama *Degrassi: The Next Generation* before pivoting to music, he released the mixtape *So Far Gone* (2009) independently — it attracted immediate attention from major labels and led to his signing with Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment and distribution through Universal. The subsequent debut *Thank Me Later* (2010) and *Take Care* (2011, produced with 40 — Noah Shebib) established his commercial and critical standing: *Take Care* won the Grammy for Best Rap Album and 'Marvins Room,' 'Marvin's Room,' and 'Headlines' demonstrated a new emotional register for hip-hop. *Nothing Was The Same* (2013), *If You're Reading This It's Too Late* (2015, a surprise mixtape), *Views* (2016), *More Life* (2017, a 'playlist' format), *Scorpion* (2018), *Certified Lover Boy* (2021), and *Her Loss* (2022, with 21 Savage) maintained his commercial dominance — he has spent more weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other artist. The 2024 feud with Kendrick Lamar — culminating in Lamar's 'Not Like Us' and Drake's multiple responses — was one of hip-hop's most culturally significant beef events in decades, with Lamar widely judged the winner. His OVO Sound label, the Champagne Papi brand, and his restaurant chain have extended his influence beyond music into a broader entertainment and lifestyle empire rooted in Toronto.
