Dua Lipa is a singer and songwriter born in 1995 in Westminster, London, to Kosovar Albanian parents. One of the most commercially dominant pop artists of the late 2010s and 2020s, she evolved from polished mainstream pop to become one of the decade's defining disco-pop voices, producing one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums of the 2020s with a sound that channelled 1970s and 1980s dance music through contemporary production. Having moved to London from Kosovo at 13 to pursue music and initially working as a model, she signed to Warner Music and released her self-titled debut in 2017, which contained the substantial hits 'New Rules' — a breakup empowerment anthem with a viral music video — and 'IDGAF,' establishing her commercial viability before her second album. *Future Nostalgia* (2020), released weeks into global lockdown, was a phenomenon: a meticulous, joyful record of nu-disco pop drawing on Blondie, ABBA, Donna Summer, and Janet Jackson, produced with impeccable craft by Ian Kirkpatrick, Stuart Price, and others. 'Don't Start Now,' 'Physical,' 'Levitating,' and 'Break My Heart' were all global hits, and the album won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album while generating enormous cultural conversation as a rare album that felt genuinely suited to its moment — euphoric escapism during a period of collective anxiety. *Radical Optimism* (2024) continued her collaboration with the finest pop producers while exploring more atmospheric, electronic textures. Her live performances — choreographed 'Lipa Shuffle' dance moves, elaborate staging — and fashion presence have made her one of pop's most complete performers. Lipa's Albanian heritage and her vocal advocacy for Kosovo's independence and international recognition have given her a political dimension unusual in mainstream pop, as has her public support for Palestinian rights.
