Worked with The Alabamians 1927-1931, joined Tiny Parham in 1931, moved to New York in 1933, joined Charlie Turner's Arcadians in 1934. For a time married to Ethel Waters and led her band 1935-1939. Led own bands during 1940s. Ceased playing, working as an agent, first in Atlantic City, then in New York,
