She made her first appearance on the London stage, at the St. James's Theatre, December 15, 1917.
Initially a stage performer, she entered films in 1931, and is best remembered as the mother in the original version of Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1934). Inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a motion pictures star in 1960.
