    Eduardo Mateo (1940–1990) was a Uruguayan singer, songwriter, guitarist and arranger. He played a key role in the development of the modern Uruguayan music mixing beat, jazz, bossa nova and local rhythms like candombe, in a way similar to Brazilian Tropicalismo. Musicians like Academy Award winner Jorge Drexler cited Mateo as a big influence. Artists like Fattoruso Trio, Jaime Roos, Sandra Mihanovich, Pedro Aznar, Milton Nascimento, Leon Gieco, Mio Matsuda, Tomohiro Yahiro, etc. have covered his songs.
