    American slide guitar, singer, songwriter, born Canton, MS ,USA or Richmond, MS, USA (depending on source). Son of Elmore James.

    He played in a 1950s Rock 'n Roll Bands The Brigadiers of Jackson. After his father's death in 1963, Willie Dixon convinced him to change his stage name to that of his father. His career began to take off after the 1981 recording "Genuine Mississippi Blues" on undefined. This brought him out of retirement (exile) to begin touring in the 2000s.
