Eminem is the stage name of Marshall Bruce Mathers III, a rapper, songwriter, and record producer born in 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. One of the most commercially successful and technically accomplished rappers in history, he achieved extraordinary mainstream crossover while maintaining hip-hop credibility through an unrivalled combination of rapid-fire delivery, complex internal rhyme schemes, and an often confrontational, darkly comic approach to autobiography and cultural commentary.
