About

Born in 1951, Enzo Minarelli has been involved in relationships with sound, writing, and video since the early Seventies. He has published many books of poetry, among them: "Poesie Doccaso" (Reggio Emilia,1993), "El Poemméxico" (Mexico City 1988), "Multipoesie Melogrammatiche” (Mulino di Bazzano 1981), as well as essays about the history of sound poetry in the twentieth century, such as "Vocalità & Poesia" (Elytra 1995), and "La Voce della Poesia - Vocoralità del Novecento" (Campanotto 2008), plus several sound editions in records, CDs and audiocassettes in collaboration with international radios and tv institutions. In 1983 he founded 3ViTre PAIR Editions of Polypoetry, a magazine on record format, and has curated special Baobab issues about sound poetry in the world ("Voci Ispano-portoghesi", 1992, "I Nuovi Mondi", 1994, "Baobab Europa", 1997). He published a Manifesto of Polypoetry in 1987, an attempt to theorize the live show of sound poetry, and performed many one-man shows of his "poetry of the image" both in Italy and abroad (notable among them the anthological show at the Modern Art Museum in Zaragoza - Spain in 1986).
Next to the production of book-objects, the series of picture on canvas called "Phonographies" play the central part of his visual reasearch.
As a videopoet, he has produced with the Centro Video Arte di Ferrara many videopomes since 1982, among them the videosoundpoetry installations ‘The Flag’ (1989) and ‘The Shop’ (1991), also presented within european and american festivals.
Additionally, he organised as promoter and curator numerous exhibitions about sound poetry and international festivals, among them "YesBePoetry" (Bologna 1997), featuring among others Eric Andersen, Valeri Scherstjanoi, Nicholas Zurbrugg, Rod Summers, Magnús Pálsson, Mark Sutherland and Nobuo Kubota, and "Festival di Poesia Sonora" (Bologna 1998), featuring among others Sten Hanson, Philadelpho Menezes, Julien Blaine, Nanni Balestrini and Jaap Blonk, and "La Voce Regina", interactive installation plus live performance by himself, Balestrini and others at Sala Borsa library, Bologna 2006. He has been ‘visiting poet’ at the San Francisco State University, at the University of California in Davis, at the San Jose State University, at the San Diego State University, at the Universidad Autonoma in Mexico City, and at the Pontificia Università Cattolica São Paolo in Brazil.
