American country and old-timey multiinstrumentalist and singer also known as North Carolina's first male country singer to record. He was recording from 1924 until 1930 but remained musically active until the end of his life. Born: February 20, 1892 in Clemmons, Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States Died: December 7, 1961 in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, United States After losing his sight in an accident in 1910 Ernest Thompson began to learn to play several musical instruments. He was recording from 1924 until 1930 but remained musically active until the end of his life. He recorded 34 sides for Columbia Records. For over 30 years he earned a living by playing in the streets.
