About

Estelle Endler (1 July 1943, ?? — 24 September 1985, Los Angeles, California) was an American film/TV producer, former publicist of Andy Kaufman (1949—1984), and longtime collaborator of Rodney Dangerfield (1921—2004). She was closely associated with a comedian for many years, securing some of his early Hollywood roles, including Caddyshack sports comedy in 1980, directed by Harold Ramis, co-written with Brian Doyle-Murray and Douglas Kenney, and featuring Chevy Chase, Ted Knight (in his final role), Michael O'Keefe, and Bill Murray. Subsequently, Endler helped to develop and produce several of Dangerfield's movies. In 1983, she was one of the executive producers of James Signorelli's Easy Money, which starred Rodney alongside Joe Pesci, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Geraldine Fitzgerald, among others. Her final role was as the executive producer for Alan Metter's iconic 1986 comedy Back to School, starring Dangerfield along with Sally Kellerman, Ned Beatty, Sam Kinison, Paxton Whitehead, Robert Downey Jr., and Adrienne Barbeau. The film also featured several cameos, including writer Kurt Vonnegut as himself and the Oingo Boingo band led by Danny Elfman, who also composed the score. Endler died before the film's completion, at only 42, and the final "freeze frame" before the closing credits featured an honorable dedication: "For ESTELLE. Thanks For So Much."
