Evžen Zámečník

Born in 1939 in Frydek-Mistek (North Moravia, Czech Republic), he studied violin and composition from 1956 to 1961 at the Brno Conservatory, then at the Janacek Academy of Music, with Jan Kapr. In 1968, he obtained his Diploma in Composition with his one-act opera The Washtub Farce. A fellowship allows studies furthered his studies for two years in the composition class of Gunter Bialas, the State Higher School of Music in Munich. He completed his studies at the Prague Academy in the class of Jiri Dvoracek. It is many years violinist in the Orchestra of the Janacek Opera. It manages and Brno Bran Band since 1982. In 1994 he was appointed Director of the Conservatory of Music in Brno. As a composer, his output covers most areas of music.
