About

Fellow Alliances takes one out of their head and onto a faraway mystic dance floor. The collaborative-to-the-core album features over 22 musicians who live around the world, and as a result each track is vibrant, unique, and reflective of the individual artist’s (or regional) culture. The idea originated with producer and musician Marco Dianese who thought to test the limits of typical studio recording sessions by creating a sort of round-robin of recordings with friends (and sharing them electronically). Not wanting to influence or sway the artist in any direction or style, Dianese created (crafted/composed) ultra-minimal, almost monotone-ish beats, then sent them via email to the artists who in turn flexed their creative process by adding vocals, instrumental tracks, overdubs, and digital layers. Once satisfied, they’d send the track back to Dianese’s inbox in New York for it to be remixed and fine tuned.

Each new song received served as a jolt of encouragement, and Dianese approached more and more friends who happily agreed, and thus Fellow Alliances went from germinating to full fledged flowering. Collaborator and co-producer Babara Gogan, no stranger to unconventional recordings, also played a major role in crafting the album. Several of the songs feature her guitar tracks, her vocals can be heard not only in her two dreamy, lyrical compositions but as backup in others as well, and of course the application of knowledge from her many years of experience in the music industry. Once a volume of songs had been collected and assembled, Dianese tapped friend and audio recording engineer Joseph Durniak to finalize the mastering of the album. Together, Dianese and Durniak added percussion, cleaned the tracks, and finalized the overall sound—with the exception of one, the title “Circle” was produced by the artists themselves. Durniak then mastered the entire compilation.

Listening to the album evokes the 90s’ era operatic dance (club kid partygoers galore), and will take one on a journey of celestial sound—through a crossover between ambient, electronic, classical, jazz, dance, dreamy, indie, and audio landscape.
