Frankie Mann

A composer and performer of electronic music, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1955. She studied piano and flute from childhood and began building electronic instruments in high school. She studied music composition, electronics and computer programming at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio and at Mills College Center for Contemporary Music in Oakland, California.

Between 1975 and 1979, Frankie's weekly radio program, "Black Spot Punch," on KPFA-FM in Berkeley, California, featured new music from the U.S. and Europe. She has performed throughout Europe and the United States and has received several grants/fellowships, including a National Endowment for the Arts Composition Fellowship, a Fulbright/Hayes Fellowship for Computer Music Research at the Instituut voor Sonologie in Utrecht, Netherlands, and a ZBS Foundation Grant.
