Gentle Thunder is a Grammy Award nominated multi-instrumentalist and composer originally from Kirkland, Washington in the United States. She primarily plays Native American flute, hammered dulcimer, drums and percussion instruments. She began playing drums professionally when she was 17, originally with various Seattle area rock bands. In 1990 she moved to Memphis, Tennessee and began focusing on her Cree heritage and traditional Native American music, which she often combines with jazz. Her first solo album of hammered dulcimer pieces, "Awakening Remembrance", was released in 1998. Gentle Thunder moved to Mt. Shasta, California in 1999. A 2006 collaboration with Amo Chip Dabney and Will Clipman, "Beyond Words" received a Grammy nomination for Best New Age Album.
