    George Melly

Born : August 17, 1926 in Liverpool, England.

Died : July 5, 2007 in London, England.

Jazz & blues singer influenced and inspired by Bessie Smith, writer & film critic, a prolific drinker, bohemian and one-time anarchist, follower of the Surrealist movement, and in latter years, simply a lover of fishing. Originally, gay, then bisexual, married twice (both mutually open) and engaged in a straight lifestyle after his twenties-thirties flamboyancy; again the association between the norm and surrealism in his sexuality, like many things, was something George found attractive in his life. Two main periods as a performer with Mick Mulligan (1950-62) and John Chilton (1972-2002), and Digby Fairweather in his final years.
