Gorgoroth

A black metal band from Bergen, Norway, founded in 1992 by Infernus (Roger Tiegs). Band's name is taken from the book The Lord of the Rings and is a dark and lifeless field where evil dwells. They have never officially published their lyrics, neither in album booklets nor through other sources. Between 2007 – 2009 the group went through a legal struggle over the Gorgoroth trademark when band members Gaahl (Kristian Espedal) and King ov Hell (Tom Visnes) had decided to kick out the founding member Infernus and claimed copyright control over the Gorgoroth name and logo. During the feud the Gorgoroth line-up led by Gaahl & King carried on touring for about 18 months, while Infernus put together a new line-up for his Gorgoroth. A verdict on the case was delivered by the Oslo City District Court on March 10th 2009 deciding that King ov Hell's trademark registration #243365 of the band name was not valid and shall therefore be deleted. Infernus remains in the band as the only original member and composer.
