Alternative Rock (Modern Rock) band from Glasgow (Scotland).
Gun formed in 1987 by brothers Giuliano (guitar) and Dante (bass) Gizzi, with Mark Rankin (vocals), Scott Shields (drums) and Baby Stafford (guitar). Signed in 1989 by A&M Records, they released their debut album "Taking on the World". Alex Dickson replaced Baby Stafford before the release of their second album "Gallus". Both Alex and Scott left before the release of "Swagger", Giuliano taking over all guitar duties and Mark Kerr (brother of Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr) replacing Scott.
"Swagger" was their most successful album, propelled by the success of their version of Cameo's "Word Up", which was a top 10 UK hit in the UK. The band took a break and returned three years later with yet another new drummer, Stuart Kerr (formerly of Texas), a new name (G.U.N.), and a new album "0141 632 6326".
The band split in 1997 but got back together for one-off reunion gigs in 1998 and 1999, before permanently reforming in 2008 with Little Angels singer Toby Jepson taking over lead vocals.
After recording a new EP in 2009, Jepson left the band the following year, and Dante Gizzi moved from bass to become Gun's new lead singer. With this new lineup, Gun have released five more albums in the 2010s: Break the Silence (2012), Frantic (2015), Favourite Pleasures (2017), The Calton Songs (2022) and Hombres (2024) which became their first top 10 since 1994.
