Harold Childs

Born: May 8th,1943 Philadelphia, PA. Long career in artist management and recording.
Died : August 27th, 2023 Los Angeles, CA. -Age 80

Childs was 6th of 7 siblings. He started in the stock room at Marnel Record Distributers in Philadelphia while still attending Dobbins High School; went on to be Regional Promotion Manager for RCA; and joined A&M in February of 1969 as National Sales and Promotion Director the for CTI(Creed Taylor) imprint label, based in New York.

After CTI went independent, Childs took the same role for the entire domestic A&M label, moving to Los Angeles in 1971. Childs was announced as a VP of A&M in 1974, and in 1978 as Senior Vice President. Childs would jump ship to Polygram in 1984, becoming a Senior Vice President; later he would join QWEST records as President.

Remarkably, in the April 18th, 1970 issue of Record World, A&M ran a full page advert "ANNOUNCING: THE FIRST FAN CLUB FOR A PROMO MAN: Be the first on your block to join the Official Harold Childs Fan Club!" - The advert included copies of the three George Benson CTI/A&M albums, and said "Honorary President of The Harold Childs Official Fan Club is George Benson who, coincidentally, is one of our artists. Harold and George have been good friends since George's first album "The Shape Of Things To Come" (SP 3014) was released."

In 2000, Childs was recognized by the Living Legends Foundation.
