American composer, lyricist, and writer for musical theater.
Born 27 May 1908 in Hartford, Connecticut, USA.
Died 26 October 1993 in New York City, New York, USA.
He charted fourteen times in the U.S.and three times in the U.K. between 1938 and 1965 including the #1 song in the U.S. "Wish You Were Here" by Eddie Fisher in 1952. His song "South America, Take It Away" hit #2 by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters and #6 by Xavier Cugat and His Waldorf-Astoria Orchestra, both in 1946. He also co-wrote the song "(All of a Sudden) My Heart Sings", which has charted four times, co-written by Laurent Henri Herpin and Jamblan (as Jean Marie Blanvillain).
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1982.
