Harry Hinde

Songwriter, producer, talent manager and record company executive. Originally from Toledo, Ohio he started out producing and releasing records by local acts in 1964. He tried unsuccessfully to break into Motown, but he did form a close friendship with The Funk Brothers' Bob Babbitt that would last the rest of their lives. After being rebuffed by Motown for being an amateur, he started producing for Mercury and writing for Kingston International Pub.. After attending a music festival in Toronto, Ontario he moved there in 1969.

Founded production company International Talent Associates and publishing companies Redgate Music (BMI) and Foresight Music (CAPAC) in Feb 1970 with Bob Marcotte. The companies originally had offices in both Toronto and Detroit. Founded publishing companies Nor-Brand Music (BMI) and Foresite Music Pub. (CAPAC) in July 1970 with Dave Verge. Also founded publishing companies Ole Colony (BMIC) and Hindesight Music (CAPAC), both purchased by Chappell in 1973 (see Chappell-Hindsight Music).

In November 1970 his company Harry Hinde Production Inc. and their act The Tundra were the first Canadians signed to A&M Records Of Canada Limited - Hinde would eventually become A&R Director for the company. In 1973 he partnered with Barrett Strong in Cidmintoy Production. He won the Juno Award for Producer of the Year in 1978. In the late 1980s he founded Limelight Records Inc., famous for first recording Shania Twain's demos. Passed away June 23, 2008 from cancer.
