They debut in November 1956 on the telescreen with "Primo Applauso" as "Quartet by Gigi and Franco Campanino", later play in the nightclubs of Naples. The original group was composed by pianist Gigi Campanino, brother Franco (bass and vocal), Aldo Sassone, electric guitar and Mario Zampa, drummer (see images). After graduating from the Music Academy the two brothers formed a r'n'r band named their surname. The group's early repertoire included classic rock'n'roll hits. In 1958 played at the Bussola in Viareggio and at La Rupe Tarpea in Rome the following year where they were spotted by film director Federico Fellini who featured them in "La Dolce Vita" as the back up group for Adriano Celentano who sang 'Ready Teddy'. The band then shifted to a more British beat repertoire playing tunes like 'Telstar' and 'Forza Papa', a cover version of 'Muskrat Ramble'. I Campanino are a band of rock and roll beat from Campania, where they also played the future guitarist of Formula 3 Alberto Radius and the famous pianist and composer Claudio Mattone, in the final phase of his career have changed for a certain period in the name Big Ben's.
