The Norwegian band started out in 1990 as a death metal band called Green Carnation, but with the main composer and guitarist Tchort leaving the band in favour of Emperor, the remaining members formed In the Woods... They began playing atmospheric black metal, but in 1997 (Omnio), their sound evolved into progressive/avant-garde metal.The band released a total of four studio albums, three singles and one compilation album throughout its initial existence, before disbanding in 2000. However, before quitting, they recorded a live performance (Live At The Caledonien Hall) that took place on 29th December 2000 in their hometown Kristiansand, capturing a three hour retrospective of the entire band's career.

In June 2014 the core members Anders Kobro, X:Botteri and C.M. Botteri decided it was time to continue the band where it was left off in 2000. In 2015 the line-up for the new album was announced, featuring the core members and James Fogarty on vocals. The album "Pure" was released in September 2016 by Debemur Morti Productions. X:Botteri and C.M. Botteri left the band in 2016. The new album "Cease The Day" was released in November 2018 by Debemur Morti Productions with new guitarists Bernt Sørensen and Kare André Sletteberg.
