He appeared in motion pictures and on television from the 1930s through the 1960s. His most-remembered role was with comedian Bob Hope and singer Bing Crosby in the 1940 comedy musical "Road to Singapore." He was buddies with Hope, occasionally traveling overseas with him to USO shows to entertain the troops and appearing on his TV specials. With Hope, singer Frances Langford, and guitarist Tony Romano, Pepper hit the road to Britain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Sicily in 1943. Hope had bumped into while doing a USO show and called his commanding officer and got him out of the army.
He started in vaudeville show with his sisters, Helen and Winnie Mae. He first came into vaudeville prominence as a partner with Frank Salt, calling themselves "Salt & Pepper". They made it to Broadway.
He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Later in his life he was a nightclub manager.
