Jane Hammond

American contemporary visual artist, photographer and printmaker (b. 27 June 1950, Bridgeport, Connecticut); lives and works in New York City. Jane Hammond has organized numerous solo exhibitions since 1987. Always inspired by language and poetry, Hammond extensively collaborated with poets Raphael Rubinstein (b. 1955) and John Ashbery (1927—2017), who suggested titles for over 60 paintings; Jane Hammond also mentioned avant-garde composer John Cage among her major influences. She was an artist-in-residence at the Skowhegan School Of Painting And Sculpture in 1992. Other Hammond's prestigious accolades include The New York State Council On The Arts award and [url=https://discogs.com/artist/8079264]NYFA[/url] grant (1989), the '89 Skowhegan School Of Painting And Sculpture fellowship, and most recently, the [url=https://discogs.com/artist/10861534]John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship[/url] (2019).

Jane Hammond studied at Mount Holyoke College, graduating with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1972. Hammond settled in New York City in 1977 and soon began compiling a massive collection of found images, which served as the foundation for Jane's early projects.
