Jay Rajeck

TRS-80 is the electronic music and multi-media vehicle of sole member, Jay Rajeck.

Jay began his musical journey as a young child in the suburbs of Chicago when he was given a marching drum as a gift. This eventually led to him studying music and performing as a percussionist in orchestras, concert bands, choirs, and jazz bands in public school. In high school, Jay started his own rock bands, learned to play keyboard and guitar, organized shows, and hosted a radio show at his school's radio station.

Renting four and eight-track recorders from a local music store was how his passion for recording began, and Jay would take the train into Chicago to Wax Trax Records on Lincoln Ave., and other independent stores to discover music that wasn't in the mainstream. Seeing shows in Chicago became a regular event with bands like Wire, Tar Babies, Front 242, Bad Brains, and many others serving as an inspiration.

In college, Jay worked for Elektra Records and Sony music and served as music director at his college radio station, all while playing shows in bands, one of which was signed to RCA Records in 1994. After discovering Pro Tools recording software while working at Chicago Trax recording studio, Jay decided to start a new project based around his simple midi and recording home-studio setup. The first song written for the new project called TRS-80 was titled "Field Drum" and then changed to "Moon Patrol", pieced together on an Apple LC computer using Vision software.

Since the inception of TRS-80 in 1997, Rajeck has released 15 albums, 19 singles, 53 videos, and played countless shows in Chicago, across the US and Canada, and Europe. From 2023 to present Rajeck's most successful recording to date has emerged with over 160 million streams of the TRS-80 remix of Daft Punk's "End of Line".
