Jean Tranchant was a successful composer at the beginning of the 30s, with songs performed by himself, by his wife Nane Cholet or others (Marlene Dietrich, Jean Sablon, Lucienne Boyer ...)
In 1935 & 1936, he was singing with the famous Quintette Du Hot Club De France.
Because he continued his career during the German occupation, he was banned from performing for two years after the end of the second world war. He left France for Belgium, Switzerland and then South America (Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina).
He came back to France in 1963.
