Jim

About

JIM is an American band with a strong improvisational underpinning that earned the tag "avant punk jazz". The band was formed 1990 in Yellow Springs, OH by Jim Steffen (Seattle) (guitar, vocals), John Steffen (drums), William Bernhard (guitar, vocals), Katie Heiser (vocals), Brandon Milner (bass) and Rebecca Heilbrunn (vocals). The Steffen brothers, Bernhard and Heiser relocated to Seattle, WA in 1991 where Jeff JD Wood joined JIM on bass/vocals.

Befriended by Phish while on tour in 1990, JIM was one of very few bands to ever open for them more than once and garnered a 'thanks' credit on [m281801] as "JIM (the band)".
JIM recorded a full length album in 1994 at Reciprocal (Seattle, WA), engineered by Phil Ek and produced by Amy Denio with a track from that session ending up on the 1995 European compilation [r2147114]. The eponymous full album was released independently by the band in 1994.
JIM disbanded in 1995, with Heiser going on to play with ¡TchKunG! and Steffen/Steffen/Bernhard/Wood continuing to perform as "Stella Maris".
