Born in New York but grew up in Dublin, Ireland. After leaving Rollerskate Skinny in 1994, Jimi moved to Chicago where he formed Lotus Crown. Along with playing in his current band Wounded Knees, he is a partner in a garden designing business in Dublin. Brother of Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine.
