Colombian salsa and tropical music singer and songwriter, also known as "El Joe". Born November 1, 1955 in Cartagena de Indias, Bolívar, Colombia.

Died July 26, 2011 in Barranquilla, Atlántico, Colombia. His song “Rebelión” about an enslaved man who starts a rebellion defending his wife from a Spaniard’s abuse has been called an anthem for Afro-Colombians and black people throughout Latin America.

Formerly in groups Fruko y sus Tesos and The Latin Brothers.
