He studied at the [url=https://www.discogs.com/label/459222-Royal-Northern-College-Of-Music]Royal Manchester College of Music[/url]. He completed his National Service with The Band Of The Grenadier Guards. In 1959, he joined the BBC Symphony Orchestra as its youngest member. In 1965, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra as Sub-Principal Second Violin (1966-1973). In 1984, he was invited to join the London Philharmonic Orchestra until his retirement in 2009.
