About

German progressive jazz-rock band from Marl (Northern Ruhr Area) active during the 70s. During their long-standing career they got known not only by the many changes in their line-up, but as well by changing their style of music. They began with playing blues-rock in the late 60s, then changed to playing hard rock and ended by playing jazz-rock, each style containing progressive elements. From the very beginning the power and creative core of Join In had been the drummer Eddy Friedrich, which founded the band in 1968 with Jörg Radeck on guitar and Udo Dobrzanski on bass. In January 1969 they took in Walter Biermann as a new bassist. With him their style changed into a much more harder sound. In the early 70s their sound tended more and more to jazz-rock. The changes in their line-up increased. Rodrigo Ramor on vocals stayed with the band only a few months before leaving for [a1270795]. Walter Biermann quit and in came, from the Philharmonia Hungarica, the Hungarian brothers Joschka and Janosch Balint, respectively on bass and piano. Furthermore both was replaced by Wilfried Jens (piano and guitar) and Werner Bleck (bass). Completing the group was Udo Custodis on saxophone. With this line-up they decided to release an LP. The recordings took place in spring of 1974 at Menga Studios, in Gelsenkirchen. The album was issued in the summer of the same year with the title "Kentalope Island". 500 copies were pressed, being sold at gigs and local record stores, shortly followed by another 500. In the following years the lineup continued to undergo frequent changes, reaching up to nine members, but without managing to release a follow-up. The end of Join In came in 1981, when Jörg Radeck took his leave. In 2003 Garden Of Delights has reissue on CD "Kentalope Island" with 8 bonus tracks.
