Swedish church musician, composer and music researcher, born October 16, 1894 in Malmö, died December 2, 1960. Hedar grew up in Malmö and played the organ for Axel Boberg. After graduating, he studied literary history at Lund University and studied composition for Alfred Berg. He continued his studies at the Stockholm Conservatory of Music 1918–1921, where he had Gustaf Hägg as a teacher of organ playing. [3] After graduating as an organist, music teacher and church singer, he was organist and music teacher in Södertälje 1920–1931 and from 1931 until his death cathedral conductor in Lund. Hedar became file. lic. 1942 and defended his dissertation in 1951 on Dietrich Buxtehude's organ music. Josef Hedar was a vocal leader in the Lund Student Singing Association 1933–1948 and a teacher of liturgical singing at Lund University. He was elected a member 633 of the Royal Academy of Music on January 28, 1943 and was awarded the Litteris et Artibus in 1958.
