About

Well-known Kansas City blues and boogie woogie pianist, a.k.a. Everett Johnson (born in 1902 or 1906 in Higginsville, Lafayette County, Missouri - died in 1971 in Kansas City, MIssouri)

Called Joshua or Josh, Everett Johnson became known playing Kansas City clubs like the Broadway Interlude, Southside Restaurant and cocktail lounge. At one time, he owned his own club, known as Everett’s Inn.

Victor Damon gave Johnson his first opportunity to cut records in 1942 and 1943. They were credited to the Everett Johnson Trio, with Sam Alexander on guitar and Ike Witt on bass. In January 1944 Johnson cut twenty solo sides for World Broadcasting Transcriptions in Chicago. His breakthrough came in 1947 when he recorded “Gypsy Blues" b/w "When the Morning Glories Wake Me” for Decca in New York City.

Some of his more notable song titles include "Days (When You Feel So Lonely)", "Ramblin' Woman", "Pile Driver Boogie," and "Battin' The Boogie."
