Julien Covey

Philip Kinorra was born Robert Cromwell Anson on 20th October 1940 in Sherwood, Nottingham. He started playing drums in his mid-teens before joining the RAF, where he played in a band that also featured alto saxophonist [a=Trevor Watts], later [a=Spontaneous Music Ensemble] and [a=Amalgam (2)]. It was at this juncture that Anson began to call himself Phill Kinorra in honour of his favourite jazz drummers - Phil Seamen, [a=Tony Kinsey] and [a=Bobby Orr].

Philip Kinorra (sometimes referred to as Phil Kinorra and also known by his stage names Julian Covey or Julien Covey and [a=Philamore Lincoln]) is a British drummer who performed with Brian Auger and the Trinity, Graham Bond and Don Rendell, as well as with his own band, Julian Covey & The Machine, for which he sang and played drums.

He also played as a replacement drummer for The Who's Keith Moon after he hurt himself in 1967. However, he only played one concert with the band before being replaced by Chris Townson, who continued filling in for Moon for four more concerts
