Keanu Nelson

Keanu Nelson Tjakamarra is a Luritja artist from Papunya (Warumpi) which is located 250km north west of Alice Springs in Australia’s Northern Territory. Heavily influenced by the local sounds of gospel, post-Lucky Dube reggae, and rock group Warumpi Band, he began writing songs drawing on themes of family, loneliness and longing. In 2022 he met Sydney producer Yuta Matsumura (The Lewers, The Blisks) who at the time was living in the community working at the Papunya Tjupi Art Centre. They began recording songs, and these recordings eventually led to the album Wilurarrakutu released by Altered States Tapes in 2023 and recently reissued by Mississippi Records.
