Kindred Spirits Ensemble

In September 2006 the Kindred Spirits Ensemble was founded to present, in memory of John Coltrane’s 80th birthday, a spiritual jazz odyssey in respect to John Coltrane’s philosophy at the Paradiso (Amsterdam, The Netherlands). His album “A LoveSupreme” that came out in the roaring sixties was the beginning of a musical movement. Coltrane opens the eyes of the jazz community by pointing out the potential of jazz: it’s a way of generating positive changes. The wish to create an objective, universal voice helps Coltrane develop his own sound. The result is a warm style with a strong spiritual message
that finds followers up till today.

The show in September 2006 was a confirmation that Coltrane’s heritage is still alive, addressing new generations. This performance was recorded with the intention to release it later on the year, but the recordings didn’t reach the quality standard of which audio should be on a record, resulting in the delay of the album.
Oktober 2008.. Kindred Spirits present the Kindred Spirits Ensemble – Love Is Supreme EP. A 4‐track EP of the forthcoming full album by the Ensemble initiated by KC The Funkaholic, Han Litz + Wiboud Burkens and orchestrated by many of its talented musicians. The Kindred Spirits Ensemble – Love Is Supreme draws strength from the rich musical history of Spiritual Jazz and carries a repertoire not completely based on Coltrane’s work, but also embracing Spiritual Jazz standards
such as “The Creator Has A Masterplan” and “Prince of Peace”. Dedications to Coltrane by Leon Thomas and Pharaoh Sanders. Zero 7 created an arrangement on Mos Def’s ‘Umi Says’, which remains unreleased. The Kindred Spirits Ensemble based its own version on this special Zero 7 arrangement and produced the track “Shining Liberation” along with the much anticipated MC Pete Philly.
