About

1970s Christian psychedelic rock band from Louisville, Kentucky.
The origins of Kristyl go back to 1972, when Sonny De Vore (lead guitar) and Bob Terrell (rhythm guitar) started playing together at high school. Around 1974 David Atherton and Bruce Whiteside joined on bass and drums respectively, and Kristyl was born. The band played frequently in their hometown of Louisville, where they developed a following. After playing many shows in the Louisville area and southern Indiana, the group decided to put together a record of original songs, which was issued in 1975. The album is a blend of homemade psychedelia with a nice mixture of of gentle dreamy passages, heavy acid guitar and wah-wah fuzz along with charmingly vocals and spiritual influences. The album was practically financed by the band itself, in particular by Sonny De Vore, and recorded locally in Louisville. It was pressed in only 500 copies and during the years has become a very sought-after collector's item, also because in early 80' several boxes of unsold copies had been thrown away by Sonny's wife to make room for a new family member. Kristyl continued for a more few years, with a different line-up, but without recording anything.
