Born on July 23, 1947 in Madras, India. Dr. Lakshminarayana Subramaniam is an Indian violin prodigy who made his first public appearance at age 6. He went on to earn a master's degree in music and teach South Indian music at Cal Arts. He completed medical training at Madras Medical College and registered as a medical practitioner before leaving the U.S. L. Subramaniam has received numerous awards for his playing and compositions, and is among the first Indians ever to release a compact disc. He is a son of V. Lakshminarayana, nephew of Ramnad Raghavan and Ramnad Krishnan, and the husband of first wife Viji Subramaniam and of second wife Kavita Krishnamurthy. He is also the father of Gingger Shankar, Ambi Subramaniam, and Bindu Subramaniam, and a brother of L. Vaidyanathan and Shankar.
