Le Jeu des Dictionnaires ("The Dictionary Game") was a renowned Belgian radio comedy show that aired daily between 5:15 and 6 PM on La Première public radio between 1989 and June 2011. It was hosted by Jacques Mercier with Virginie Svenson for almost twenty years, with Véronique Thyberghien taking over in November 2008; Alain Debaisieux provided sound interventions with pre-recorded sample collages and live music during the broadcast. (The same team produced a more polemical humorous weekly radio program, La Semaine Infernale focused on current political news.) For each episode, a guest — Belgian artist, cultural celebrity, or public intellectual — would have to find a correct definition for an obscure French word out of four possible definitions. Some of the notable guests over the years include Hugues Dayez, Nathalie Uffner, Eric De Staercke, Aurélia Dejond, Jean-Luc Fonck, Gilles Verlant, and Monsieur Météo.
