American author, musician and journalist who played lead guitar with Tim Buckley for most of Buckley's career. Also plays piano. From 1975 to 1981, Underwood lived in Los Angeles and worked as West Coast editor for DownBeat magazine, focusing on jazz. He also wrote for Rolling Stone magazine and The Los Angeles Times. He co-authored the autobiography of Paul Horn titled Inside Paul Horn (1990) and has written poems and short stories. He has hosted a Fresno radio show with Preston Chase named Between The Lines: Poetry To Take You Home.
