US percussionist, also known as Leo Flemming Jr., son of [a2121434]. Born September 16, 1939, in Puerto de Tierra, a suburb of San Juan, Puerto Rico, then moving to St. Thomas, V.I. with his father in 1947, and subsequently moving to New York (Spanish Harlem) in 1951. Died April 28, 2025 in Paterson, N.J. at the age of 85.
One of Fleming's breakthroughs came in 1965 when he was invited by Miriam Makeba's then husband, Hugh Masekela, to assist in her rehearsal, then becoming a member of her band, playing on "Pata Pata" that appears on her 1967 Reprise release [url=https://www.discogs.com/master/259376-Miriam-Makeba-Pata-Pata]"Pata Pata"[/url].
