About

Mexican-American actress and singer. Born January 16, 1919 in New York City, New York, USA. Died December 17, 2010, at age 91, from natural causes at a hospital in Pasadena, California, USA.
Born the daughter of Porfirio Romay, then-attache to the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles. She appeared in both photoreal and live-action form in the Droopy cartoon "Senor Droopy" (1949).
Romay could sing equally well in English and in Spanish. She performed for a time with Xavier Cugat, Cugat thinking so highly of her, that he built a chorus of five men and four women to blend with her singing. He also wrote ballads specifically for her. She sang with his group for at least 5 years, including in films, before retiring in 1953.
Romay's last performance on stage was for a benefit show in Los Angeles in March 1973, under her married name -- Elena Romay Gould.
