Lollo Asplund

Swedish musician and journalist, born 29 May 1950 in Eskilstuna, died 1 September 2019 in Linköping.

He debuted in a larger context in 1973 in the television program Opopoppa, where he sang his own song "Här står jag som en annan docka". After a few years as a teacher in the 1970s, Asplund returned to music. The debut album Eldsjäl came in 1981. This was followed by the children's album Äppelmelodier & Lurendrejerier which came out in 1983. Asplund got the idea for Äppelmelodierna when he discovered at school that the music in the songbooks differed too much from the music the children listened to themselves. He therefore wrote fast-paced music with elements of reggae, rock and calypso. The layouts for the texts initially came from his students, the best example of which is Bästis-Calypso. The apple melody can be found today in a number of Swedish songbooks.

During the 1980s, Lollo Asplund worked with the musician Stefan Axelsson. The collaboration resulted, among other things, in the album Månstrålar, which was recorded with the Akademiska Kören in Linköping. Axelsson and Asplund were also musical hosts in the well-attended writers' evenings in Gamla Linköping. About 50 of Sweden's most famous and appreciated authors, among them Sara Lidman, Göran Tunström and Katarina Frostenson, read and narrated. Asplund produced these programs: Summer evening in Huitfeltska, which was given from 1984–1993.

During the 1990s, Asplund appeared a lot in various children's shows - with and for children - above all as the extremely cowardly pirate "Captain Svarte Bill". These songs were also written together with Stefan Axelsson. The music saga was released on CD in 1994 and was performed in its entirety a couple of years ago (2010) together with Norrköping's culture school.

In 1996, Asplund appeared together with the actor and drummer Jimmy Uller in the film "Sopor - a real trash film" which was about waste sorting and for which Asplund wrote the songs.

From 1996, Lollo Asplund worked mainly as a cultural journalist at Östgöta Correspondent, where he mainly wrote about music and musicians. He was also head of that editorial office for five years and is perhaps most appreciated for his portraits, chronicles and reviews.
