    Los Catinos

We met one of the pioneering groups in Barcelona. They were musicians of Conservatory and already in 1961 travel to Madrid next to Los Pájaros Locos and the Golden Quarter to participate in a festival organized by S.E.U. (Sindicato Español Universitario), an organization of forced affiliation for university students of the time. They act together with the three most well-known and almost unique Madrid groups, Los Pekenikes, Los Estudiantes and Los Blue Boys. At that time they call themselves Los Ticanos.

In 1962 they alter the order of the syllables of their name and they come to be denominated Los Catinos. By then they are Manolo Vehí (singer), José Antonio Muñoz (bass), Jordi Casas (piano and organ), Marcelo Pinilla (guitar soloist), Fernando Luna (drums) - who had previously been in Los Blue Stars - plus a sixth component Unidentified guitarist, who would only participate in the recording of the first EP: "Sag Warum / Naciste Para Mi / Todos los chicos y chicas / Se oculta el sol" (Vergara, 1963). An album that works acceptably and that allows the group to secure itself among the great competition that was beginning to have in their city.
In an interview that appeared in the April 1964 issue of Fonorama magazine, they themselves define their style: "We are a different set of all, more melodic, less made for festivals, but the public respects us."
