Los Elegantes

Spanish band from the 80s, founded in 1979 by singer Juan Ignacio de Miguel, "el Chicarrón", and 2 guitarists: Juanma del Olmo (from Zombies) & Emilio López. Thanks to Javier Teixidor, bassist from rock band Mermelada, they released a demo. The band was completed with Carlos Hens (drums) and José Luis de la Peña (bass, ex Glutamato Ye-Ye).

Soon they started playing live, joining rhythm'n'blues & mod revival from the late 70s. J. I. de Miguel left and Emilio became singer. After their maxi "La calle del ritmo", a big hit, they met Rafael Abitbol who produced their first album, "¡Ponte ya a bailar!" (1984), with a more synth-based sound, but with a good hit: the version of "Zoot Suit", called now "Mangas Cortas". They released some other albums with little succes and disappeared in early 90s.

Los Elegantes in their beginnings, in their time more Mod, in direct they used to support their repertoire with some very good versions. They played a live show in the "El Salero" room (Madrid). There they interpreted a version of "Walking the dog" (Rufus Thomas) and they would record this subject under the pseudonym "Salero All Stars" and with the title of "Quiero ser tu perro Bulldog". They edited the recording on the Fanzisingle that came with the musical Fanzine "Banana Split" (Spain).
