Luz Eliana , whose name is Luz Eliana Barraza Valenzuela (Valparaíso , Valparaíso Region , September 19, 1939), is a singer belonging to the Chilean "Nueva Ola" music movement of young South Americans who incorporated rock 'n' roll into their sound.

She began his musical career in 1961, singing on the Calducho program on Radio Portales de Valparaíso . During her early years as a singer, she performed with the Roberto Inglez orchestra . In 1962, she travelled to Santiago with the producer Camilo Fernández to make his first recordings. Her stage name was suggested by the radio host Miguel Davagnino. She was characterized by adapting international hits into Spanish where she had chart success but she also sang in jazz, one of her favourite musical genres, and where she was called "the Chilean Ella Fitzgerald"

In 1968, he won the international contest of the IX Viña del Mar Song Festival , interpreting the song "Palabras". In 1977, she participated in the XVIII Viña del Mar Song Festival with the song "De cara al viento", by the author Luis "Poncho" Venegas, obtaining third place and the award for the most popular artist.

After a period of inactivity of approximately fourteen years, the singer returned to the stage together with her new wave companions in 2001, during the XLII Viña del Mar Song Festival . Since then, she has made various presentations throughout Chile. In 2003, she participated in the album Generations. Two times in duet , where she recorded a version of the song "Although I know" with the group Papanegro . Two years later, she returned to collaborate with the group on the song "One more step" from the Compact disc .

In May 2014, he appeared in the film "An unforgettable concert", by director Elías Llanos . In it, she shared the screen with other new wave singers, such as Cecilia , Danny Chilean , Luis Dimas , Buddy Richard and Peter Rock .
