Mac Miller

Mac Miller was a rapper, singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist born Malcolm James McCormick in 1992 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. One of the most beloved and emotionally resonant artists in modern hip-hop, he built a catalogue that traced an extraordinary arc from teenage mixtape success to mature, jazz-inflected artistic achievement before his death from an accidental drug overdose in September 2018 at the age of 26. His breakthrough came with the mixtape *Best Day Ever* (2011) and debut album *Blue Slide Park* (2011), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 making him the first independent artist to achieve that feat in over a decade. Early mixtapes like *But My Mackin' Ain't Easy* and *The Jukebox* had built a loyal underground fanbase from his Pittsburgh base. The posthumous *Circles* (2020), completed by producer Jon Brion from sessions that were intended to pair with *Swimming*, added further depth to his legacy.
