Finnish bassist and singer.

Born January 14, 1966. Brother of Zachary Hietala.

Hietala is the lead singer and bass player in the band [a=Tarot (2)], which he founded with his brother in 1982. He also played bass in the Finnish bands [a=Sinergy (2)] and [a=Conquest (9)], which he left in 2002 to join Nightwish as bassist and male vocalist. In 2019, he released his first album as a solo artist.

In January 2021, Hietala announced that he has left Nightwish and decided to withdraw from the public eye, due to personal reasons. However, he still occasionally performs with his other bands and as a solo artist.

Hietala has his own personal studio called Marco's CockPit.
